Indeed, in fact fewer Jeds would make them easier to control.

I take it Pete and I are commanding the Jed team. It we open it to 8 players, that might work better, then we can open it up a bit at a time as we get more Germans booked in.

We should also encourage people have German kit but who want to play Jed to lend their kit if they want to.

Don't forget we have 700 acres to cover - eight bods can't possibly do it all. Unless you are planning on hiding for 24 hours. Allied commanders can't have the control the Germans do - you will just have to task people and hope they do the job. On the other hand we will be on top of Germans all the time and the degree of control means we can allow Allies as much freedom as you wish. I mean, we all know where stuff is happening so it would be :ghey: and pointless if we directed patrols at that point. Our task as organisers of the German side is to keep a lot of men busy - almost all of it will be fruitless tasks (patrols into areas of no Allied activity, camp duty, sentry duty, fetching and carrying.

Don't think that having fewer men makes it less likely you will be found - that's our job as organisers to make sure that people are in the right place and doing the right things to make a 24hr event sustainable.

You are over-estimating that site again,

On the Sunday morning at CR the five remaining Allies covered half the site, it's easily doable in 24hrs.

We only used part of it and you had very little to do (attack the V2 which was right next to the German camp!). Piece of piss. But given that only five of you remained after getting wet how many will remain this time after being much more heavily tasked, much more to endure AND the possibility of getting wet! Give yourselves a chance, spread the load!

We only used part of it

No we didn't! We were driven around the entire perimeter and dropped off on the edge of the forest on the Saturday. We then made our way up to the opposite side of the site to RV with our other teams.

We were also camped right on the south-eastern edge of the site. The only bit we didn't really use was the woodland on the right hand side of the road where we gave the briefing which accounted for about 10% of the site.

The Germans might not have seen the whole site, but believe me, I trudged around almost of the entire fecking site. :slap:

Your fitness isn't in question - everyone else's is. 12hrs on the go on Saturday, sleeping in the open under improvised shelter, 6hrs on the go on Sunday. No transport. No nice tents. No fires. Having to take long ways round to avoid enemy. Quite possibly piss-wet through from the start. This is a big ask for our mamby-pamby airsofters (and I'd include myself in that if I wasn't encamped on the German side!)

I wasn't boasting about fitness. There were others with me and they coped fine.

At CR it wasn't fitness that was the issue, it was the rain, which wasn't helped by the Allied camp siting. If we were put somewhere that could be reached by vehicles, like the German camp, I think more would have stayed.

I understand what you're saying about the our members' fitness and determination, but the site isn't so big that you could easily get lost in it. You could walk to one of the perimeters within 20 minutes.

Aye, but it will be worse for you lot this time x10. Your 'camp' won't be anywhere near vehicles or tracks (I wouldn't have thought) - they are likely to be physically tired (lack of sleep, hard graft) and tasks won't be as 'easy' and as straightforward as last time (attack this, defend that). Plus if you had just a few men and you were bumped that would be a real downer, more men means missions are more likely to succeed, one way or another even if some are caught!

Er ...can we leave the discussion of this event till later and focus on Borsyn ....I see the same discussion coming up .

I suggest

1 We need to decide if it will be a classic E&E
2 a classic fight between even sides
............or a mixture of the both .

Endless chat about CR and the site is a way off yet

My 2Ps worth

Lets concentrate on getting the trainign day going , rather than worrying about an event 2 games off .?

Right, while we are on a roll and punters are gagging for more we must press ahead and launch Jedburgh and the associated training event ASAP.

Proposed launch release (for discussion)

[/hr]

The much awaited Operation Jedburgh event is now in final stages of planning. We have taken on board player's misconceptions, doubts and confusion, all failings on our part first time around.

Summer 1944

Having taken a pounding in the battles around Caen and the D-Day Beachheads, mixed elements of SS Panzer and Heer troops are taking a well earned weekend rest to refit and re-arm in the Cherbourg Peninsula. Hidden away in the woods, they are tasked with some light training and ensuring that the French locals do not cause any trouble. They have a good set up, sleeping in proper tents for the first time in a month, with good food and warm fires, and not under constant threat of attack. For a few days it seems that the fortunes of war have turned in their favour.

Unknown to the Germans, their location has been found by some of the elite Jedburgh teams, who have been living behind the lines since before D-Day. Ruthless, resourceful and able to live off the land for months, these tough troops have no intention of letting the enemy recuperate. Hit and run is their chosen speciality, and it is not long before they can begin to pose a real threat; even in small numbers. With the additional resource of a nearby SAS group as well as the local knowledge of the Resistance they mean to cause trouble...

CiA would like to announce our 'Operation Jedburgh' event at IED's Glyn Ceriog site (Wrexham) in North Wales.

Date is Saturday 10th and Sunday the 11th July 2010.
Price £40

Requirements

Germans - 30+ places

You will operate from a fixed base, with tents, warm beds, vehicles, and hot brews a-plenty. No sleeping in foxholes for you. The event will run for the full 24 hours, although you will be tasked into squads and rotated to ensure that you all get some good periods of rest. The event will continue until all the evaders are caught, and they have the options of attacking at any point during the duration. Therefore the traditional Saturday night piss up is not on the cards, although sitting round some warm camp fires with small bottles of schapps may be in order. You will run the risk of attack at all times, you will not be able to drop your guard.

We are going for a more period look than previously, so you will need a period style tent, either zelts, large canvas or pup (or a mate you can share with). No modern nylon tents at all, and no gas cookers, please bring esbits or spirit cookers or cook on the open fire. Modern sleeping bags & bivi bags are ok as long as they are hidden inside your tent arrangement. CiA has tentage to lend out, please ask if you need it.

Uniform is Feldgrau/HBT, Cammo smocks etc ok. No weapons limitation other than standard CiA rules.

Jedburgh Team places - 9 places maximum, working in squads of three

You will operate with what you can carry on your back. You will need to be physically fit and competent at navigating around 700 acres. The event is mentally more than physically punishing, do not underestimate this. Your missions will be given to you in the run up, and you may not necessarily start in one large group. You will have to live off the land, picking up supplies of extra food and ammunition from caches. With luck you may find some parachute containers with some warm sleeping bags..... if you get caught you could end up sitting in a German prison for a numbers of hours.

Minimum requirements are a compass (modern is fine), some form of shelter, zelt or rubberised Brit poncho, and a modern sleeping bag. If you want some kip during the night you will need to construct a shelter.

Uniform can be any appropriate British or US or Civvy along with a Denison. No weapons limitation other than standard CiA rules.

SAS Team places - 12 places maximum, working in squads of four
You will have the relative luxury of tentage and be in a safe enough location to have the ability to build fires and keep warm and well fed. You are in enemy territory so you are not living in luxury, your encampment isn't permanent and it isn't home from home. But you won't have it quite as hard as the Jeds.

Uniform can be any appropriate British kit for SAS and can be mixed dress (interspersed with U.S items, even the odd bit of civvy). No weapons limitation other than standard CiA rules.

Booking
Booking threads will open beginning of April 2010. There is no requirement for secret booking and the system will be as normal.

This will be more living history, MILSIM, whatever you want to call it, than before. If you want to live in 1944 for a full weekend, at constant threat of being attacked on either side, and feel what it was really like for the men at the time, then this is the one event this year where you will get that opportunity. You will have heart-stopping, adrenaline-pumping moments as well as mind numbingly boring episodes. You may even not get to fire a shot all weekend. You will be working as a team toward collective goals and under military command. You will be tested physically and mentally. War is hard work and serious business. Yet paradoxically, within this pressure, mankind has the ability to find lighter moments, jollity and enjoyment.

There will be no social event on Saturday night, both sides will be operational until midnight, some squads working through the night (if they have the will) and both sides up at first light on Sunday morning. However, we will have an after-game BBQ/get together at Sunday lunchtime.

In preparation for this event Sgt Heide will be running a training event based around survival, operating 'behind the lines', mental preparedness, keeping warm, living rough, hit and run techniques.

Nice one. Is it worth mentioning an "end-ex" bbq and a couple of beers?

A quick edit to the SAS kit requirements, perhaps. Behind the lines, they're a bunch of brigands, so, mixed dress and kit would be perfectly acceptable, as are captured weapons. I dare say Gadge will stick his poke in, so, it's nice to preempt him by getting this bit right. :good:

Yes, good idea. That way regular German players can sign up as SAS if they wish.

Well, without sounding like Gadge! They wore the usual Brit kit, sometimes interspersed with U.S items, even the odd bit of civvy and even German kit! Helmets were uncommon, especially for night ops'. There was a lot of use made of U.S webbing because many SAS were armed with M1 Carbines and M1911's (every trooper had one) as well.

Gives people without full Brit loadouts chance to beg and borrow kit off others without having to flap about being "right" and have a better chance of getting a decent setup.

Example - My planned rig is KD shirt, Denison, US airborne trousers, corcoran boots, mountain cap and a mix of Brit/U.S webbing, with an M1 Carbine (or Sten/MP40). I'll carry my wool jumper in my bergen in case it gets cold or it rains. It would be equally "right" if I just wore battledress and a jerkin, or a windproof suit, or a mix of both, with a civvy jumper under it all! It really is a flexible loadout. There's plenty of people with potential for "loaner" denisons as well.

Having said all that though, we already have quite a few players with perfectly acceptable British Airborne kit which would be perfect as well! Perhaps if we just mention a bit of irregularity is not a bad thing? (and then wait for Gadge to bathe us all in his fountain of knowledge!).

Done, section unlocked. Feel free you add your training stuff as and when you choose Pete, might be an idea to give them your thoughts as a bit of a taster?
